Hyderabad|India|July'2011: U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador A. Peter Burleigh distributed graduation certificates to 32 students who completed their English studies through the U.S.-government sponsored English Access Microscholarship Program.

The program provides a foundation of English language skills to economically disadvantaged, 14-to-18 year olds through afterschool classes and intensive summer learning activities.

Students learn about American society and culture, democratic values and attend field trips to enhance their experience. The Access course consists of a total of 360 hours of activity spread over 20 months.

While congratulating students on the successful completion of the program Ambassador Burleigh said, “English as a language would open up the world for all of you. Each one of you must use what you have learned during the program to enhance your career opportunities.”

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs funds the Access program in India and around the world. Since its inception in 2004, approximately 70,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program.
