Mou signed between TERI & UoH in
city

Hyderabad|India|February'2009:
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The Energy and Resources
Institute (TERI) and University of Hyderabad (UOH) has been signed at
Jubilee Hall, in the presence of Chief Minister Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy,
for operating Academic links between Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI)
and University of Hyderabad (UOH).
TERI is an independent, not-for-profit research institute focused on
energy, environment and sustainable development and devoted to efficient
and sustainable use of natural resources. TERI has proposed to create a
new campus to implement its plans for expansion of research and related
activities.
On being invited by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, TERI submitted a
formal proposal to provide land at a suitable location in Hyderabad. About
40 acres of land within the campus of the UOH was identified for this
purpose.
UOH is a Central University under the University Grants Commission (UGC)
of the Government of India. The UOH has a vision of transforming its
campus into a premier hub of research institutes of excellence. In
pursuance of this and on recommendation of the Government of Andhra
Pradesh, the competent authority of UOH has formally approved allocation
of a land to TERI.
The proposed TERI campus in Hyderabad (henceforth called as TERI) and UOH
can benefit from each other’s strengths. A synergy of the academic
programs of the two institutions would be of great mutual benefit and
would provide unique opportunities for collaboration. In addition, the two
institutions will work towards providing high-class training in research
and development to all the deserving students from either side.
TERI is committed towards promoting awareness of environmental damage and
degradation of natural resources and working towards finding solutions to
these problems with an aim to consolidate its ‘local focus and global
reach’. TERI aims at development of promoting technologies, policies and
institutions for efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. Over
the last 26 years, TERI has developed a tradition of high-end research and
has always coupled its research activities with a practical notion of
implementation. TERI has grown to establish a presence not only in
different corners and regions of India but is perhaps the only developing
country institution to have established a presence in North America and
Europe and on the Asian continent in Japan, Malaysia and the Gulf.
Established in 1972, UOH is one of India’s top Universities, conducting
teaching programs of excellent standard at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels in a variety of fields, including arts, humanities, science,
engineering etc. UOH is renowned for its high caliber of its research
programs.
An Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) will be formed to explore ways to
foster co-operation between TERI and UOH, both in research and teaching
activities. The AAC will have Director, TERI and Vice-Chancellor, UOH as
co-chairs, and two nominees from each side as members. It will look into
all aspects of developing common programs.
Academicians in TERI and UOH may propose joint research projects. TERI and
UOH agree to make their research and support facilities accessible to the
collaborators subject to constraints of availability and infrastructural
load. In the same manner, the students associated in the joint research
can carryout their research projects at either of the places.
The two institutions will plan and actively participate in joint seminars,
workshops, schools and conferences, thereby facilitating and promoting
greater interactions.
