Chief
Justice of AP High Court launches PG Diploma Course in Criminal Justice and
Forensic Science at University of Hyderabad

Hyderabad|India|December'2008:The Centre for Distance Education,
University of Hyderabad (UoH) in association with Truth Labs, India's first
Independent People's Forensic Lab based in Hyderabad launched the P G Diploma
Course in Criminal Justice & Forensic Science at the University of Hyderabad on
5th December, 2008.
Hon'ble Justice Sri Anil R. Dave, Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court was
the Chief Guest. In his address Hon'ble Sri Dave lauded the efforts of
University of Hyderabad and Truth Labs in launching this course. He was positive
that many persons will enroll for this programme due to its nature and
involvement of scientific techniques. Sri Dave gave examples of crimes having
taken place and how the police and judiciary managed to solve these cases with
minute details resulting from investigations of the evidence collected from the
place of the crime. He was optimistic that this course will enable the students
to be more capable in their professional work.
Sri S S P Yadav, Director General of Police, Government of Andhra Pradesh was
the special guest on the occasion. In his address Sri Yadav said that the State
is duty bound in providing justice to its citizens. The faith of the general
public has to be kept by the judiciary. Speedy trial ensures that society is rid
of all vices. Terrorists have targeted India for the last several years and the
recent Mumbai terror attacks prove that we need to be more vigilant to such
attacks in future. India has to be prepared to face any challenge posed by
external threats from such terrorists.
Dr. Seyed E. Hasnain, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad presided over the
function and told the audience that it was for the first time in 34 years that a
Chief Guest of AP High Court and the Director General of Police are together for
a function at the University of Hyderabad. Vice Chancellor also said that it was
a happy occasion to associate with Truth Labs in launching this novel PG diploma
course.
Dr. K P C Gandhi of Truth Labs gave an overview of the course and spoke of its
genesis. It was during one of his visits for a seminar to the United States of
America that he hit upon the idea of having such a course that can benefit
people as it provides Knowledge and understanding of dynamics of crime and its
complex social phenomenon. The course will enable decision making in criminal
investigations. The University atmosphere and infrastructure will help in
teaching Cyber Laws and Human Rights in addition to the Social Sciences topics
added in the course. The course content has been developed through direct
intervention of the best of minds in the area of judiciary and forensic sciences
which include Justice M N Venkatachalaiah, Former Chief Justice, Supreme Court
of India, Justice M Jagannatha rao, Former Chief Justice of Karnataka & Kerala
and other such eminent persons.
Prof. I Ramabrahmam, Professor in Political Science department at UoH proposed
