Prof.Ramaswamy
takes over as UoH Vice- Chancellor

Ramaswamy assumed charge as Vice Chancellor
of the prestigious University of Hyderabad. Prof. Ramaswamy has been associated with the Jawaharlal
Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi since 1986; he
is Professor in the School of Physical Sciences as
well as the Centre for Computational Biology and
Bioinformatics in the School of Computational and
Integrative Sciences at JNU. He was at the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai) from
1981-86, and at the California Institute of
Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena as a
post-doctoral fellow from 1978-80.
Prof. Ramaswamy holds a Ph D in Chemistry from
Princeton University. His current research
interests are in Nonlinear Science, Computational
Biology and Systems and Synthetic Biology. His M
Sc (Chemistry) is from the Indian Institute of
Technology, Kanpur and B Sc (Chemistry) is from
Loyola College, Chennai.
Prof. Ramaswamy has about 200 publications and
book articles relating to chemical dynamics,
classical and quantum chaos, semi-classical
quantization, disordered systems and statistical
physics, molecular dynamics and cluster physics,
and genomics and systems biology to his credit. He
is the recipient of several prestigious awards and
honors which include the National Science Talent
Scholarship (1969-74); Indian National Science
Academy Medal for Young Scientists, 1985;
Associateship of the Indian Academy of Sciences,
Bangalore (1985-88); Associateship of the
International Center for Theoretical Physics,
Trieste (1988-93, 1996-2001), International
Fellowship of the Santa Fe Institute (2000-2002),
and the J C Bose Fellowship of the DST (2008- ).
He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences,
Bangalore, the Indian National Science Academy,
New Delhi, and twas- The Academy of Sciences for
the Developing World, Trieste.
Prof. Ramaswamy said that The University of
Hyderabad has seen considerable growth in the past
few years, with the introduction of new courses of
study, new disciplines, and new initiatives.
Consolidation of this growth, and strengthening of
the efforts that have been made so far will form
the major initial impetus of the new
administration. With the range of disciplines
represented and quality of the faculty and
students at UoH, the University- which is among
the finest in the country- is well poised to make
its mark internationally as well.
