Seminar on "Rocket Technology and
Chandrayaan-1" held at VMR Institute of Technology

VMR Institute of Technology and Management Sciences (VMIT), a
private Engineering Institute affiliated to JNTU, Hyderabad has
organized a seminar on "Rocket Technology and Chandrayaan-1" here at
its campus.
The seminar is to commemorate launching of ISRO’s PSLV C-11 carrying
the CHANDRAYAAN-1 on 22nd October 2008 from Sriharikota launching
pad. This being the prestigious event for India that makes it stand
besides advanced countries which have made a great progress in space
exploration regime. The seminar is intended for the students of VMIT
with an intention to create awareness amongst the young budding
engineers regarding efforts put forward by Indian Government towards
Space applications.
The seminar has been graced with the presence of Prof. Anjaneyulu,
Aeronautical Department, Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (IARE),
Hyderabad along with his colleague Mr. Kasi Viswanth, Mechanical
department. Prof Anjaneyulu joined IARE after serving VSSC, ISRO,
Trivandrum for about 36 years.
Sri V. Malla Reddy, Chairman and Dr K. Rajanna, Professor &
Principal of the Institute have welcomed the guests. Prof Rajanna
has delivered a talk on "Rocket Technology" in which the audience
was briefed with principles involved in development and design
aspects of rockets. Design philosophies of PSLV, and GSLV as well as
need for multi-stage rocket assembly were discussed. Space
exploration studies and Inter planetary missions were touched upon.
The second part of the seminar dealt with Chandrayaan mission
planned by ISRO. It was presented by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Physics
faculty of the Institute. Details of Chandrayyan-1, the first
unmanned lunar mission of India have been presented during his
lecture. Further, details regarding Payloads carried by this
satellite belonging to various Nations have been discussed. The
trajectory plans and goals of the mission were discussed.
The seminar included a couple of short films animated by ISRO, which
received applauds form the audience.
The seminar has created a great impact on the minds of students and
other staff members in orienting themselves towards research and
development activities of the Nation.
