The Metro Rail ground work will start by May, 2010
and some important sections will be opened for traffic by March, 2014 and
the whole project will be completed by the end of 2014. A decision to this
effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister K Rosaiah. The
Metro Rail Project should now move fast and adhere to the revised schedule
without delaying even for a day, the Chief Minister said. The Officials
assured the Chief Minister to adhere to the schedule.
The Chief Minister who is very keen to kick-start the all important
projects felt that the prestigious MRTS Project was delayed due to
circumstances beyond our control. Now that the revised time schedule for
the Project and its completion is ready, it should be put on the fast
track. He directed the Metro Rail authorities to strictly adhere to the
current bidding schedule for prequalification and financial bids.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah reviewed the progress of Metro Rail
project and the status of MMTS Phase-II and various Railway projects and
proposals at Secretariat. In a presentation on the Metro Rail project, the
Chief Minister was informed that the fresh Pre-qualification bids would be
received on November 2 this year and that the due date for the Financial
bids is 22nd January, 2010.
The Chief Minister will also address the MPs from Andhra Pradesh at a
meeting during the winter session of Parliament which is likely to begin
on 19th November, 2009 about the pending and ongoing railway projects and
proposals.
Mr Rosaiah said that he will take up with Minister of Railways, Ms. Mamata
Banerjee, the sanction of MMTS Phase-II, increase in allocation of funds
for on-going Railway projects in Andhra Pradesh, new Railway line
proposals like Srikalahasti-Nadikude; Kovvur-Bhadrachalam etc. He will
also discuss with the Railway Minister regarding introduction of new
commuter trains on various Railway routes in AP and for merger of
Visakhapatnam division with South Central Railway.
Reiterating the strong commitment of the government to implement the Metro
Rail project and put it on a fast track to effectively address the traffic
problems of the city, the Chief Minister directed the Metro Rail
authorities to strictly go by the current bidding schedule. Describing the
Metro Rail project as a dream project of former Chief Minister
Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Rosaiah directed the officers to commence
the ground works by May 2010 and open some important sections for traffic
by March 2014.
The entire project should be completed by the end of 2014 under any
circumstances.
Appreciating the proposed plan which connects various colonies and work
places with the Metro Rail stations and interchange facilities between
main railway stations, MMTS stations and major bus depots, Mr. Rosaiah has
advised the officers to provide comfortable and seamless travel facility
for commuters.
The Corridor I of the MRTS is Miyapur-L.B.Nagar, Corridor II is Jubilee
Bus Station—Falaknuma and Corridor III is Nagole-Shilparamam.
A presentation was made to the Chief Minister about the MMTS Phase-II and
various other Railway projects, pending and ongoing proposals. Directing
the officers to expedite the MMTS Phase-II, the Chief Minister ordered a
Committee of senior officers to be set up to resolve all the issues with
Railways in the next two weeks.
Advisor to Government T. Stanley Babu Principal Secretary, Finance,
G.Sudhir, Principal Secretary to CM, Dr.C.V.S.K. Sarma, Commissioner &
Special Officer, GHMC, S.P.Singh, Secretary, Municipal Administration, Ms.
Pushpa Subramanyam, Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S.Reddy and
other officials have also attended the meeting.
