World Telecom Development Conference to
be held in City
Hyderabad|India|May'2010: United Nations -UN – International
Telecommunication Union -ITU is hosting its 4th edition of the World
Telecommunication Development Conference 2010 in HICC Hyderabad from 24th
May – 04th June 2010. The conference is jointly hosted by the Department
of Telecom, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology,
Government of India and Information Technology and Communications
Department Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The World Telecom Development Conference is held once in four years. The
purpose of the conference is to agree on development priorities in view of
the high-level recognition of the Digital Divide created by the rapid but
uneven expansion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and
to promote international cooperation and partnerships that can sustain and
strengthen telecommunication infrastructure and institutions in developing
countries. The previous Conference was held in Doha in 2006.
1200 participants from over 191 countries across the globe are
participating in the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2010
in Hyderabad scheduled from 24th May – 04th June 2010.
In order to see that the conference is organized successfully, Information
Technology & Communications Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh has
been assigned with the task of coordinating the event from the State
Government side.
Smt. K.Ratna Prabha, IAS, Principal Secretary, IT&C Department held a
coordination meeting with the senior officers of various Departments such
as Police, General Administration, Tourism, Health, BSNL, Customs,
HICC,etc. Government of India officials made a presentation on the
specific requirements and support that needs to be extended by the State
Government in respect of security, safety, transport, protocol and other
logistics. The respective Depts have taken note of the same.
The State Government shall extend all requisite coordination and
cooperation to the Government of India and ITU in this regard and take all
the steps that are required to facilitate the conference at Hyderabad
between 24th May – 04th June 2010.
