City signage project designed to put Hyderabad among select cities having comprehensive signs that give clear directions and distances at entry and exit points

Hyderabad|India|August'2010: Chief Minister Dr. K Rosaiah directed the officials of GHMC and Tourism to work in tandem to develop the city of Hyderabad on par with the other cities in the developed countries. He stressed the need for creating necessary infrastructure in a planned manner to achieve the set goals so that the fruits of the development would benefit the citizens.

The Chief Minister formally launched a project that envisages installation of elegant directional signage boards across the twin cities. He has unveiled the ultra-modern signage at camp office in the presence of Ministers Dr.Smt.J.Geeta Reddy, Sri Danam Nagender and Sri Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and Hyderabad Mayor, Smt. B.Karthika Reddy.

Congratulating the department of Tourism, GHMC and the SBH for the initiative, the Chief Minister said that new initiatives should be taken up to ease the ever increasing traffic in the twin cities. He hoped that the present project would facilitate smooth flow of traffic. Once all the signs are installed, their combined effect, apart from giving aesthetic snapshots of places of interest, would enhance Hyderabad’s allure as a city of monuments, world-renowned heritage structures and an attractive tourism destination, the Chief Minister said.

The State Department of Tourism in association with the GHMC and the State Bank of Hyderabad has initiated this project to install elegant directional signage across the twin cities as part of multi pronged efforts to give heritage rich Hyderabad City an international look. The project envisages erecting of “Directional Signange” at 650 to 700 junctions in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad within the jurisdiction of GHMC. The Tourism department plans to initially install 650 signages covering about 200 junctions. The entire project is expected to cost Rs.85 lakhs.

The directional signage project is designed to put Hyderabad among select cities having comprehensive signs that give clear directions and distances at entry and exit points as well as along the thoroughfares. The signages will help the residents as well as Tourists to find their way in the 5th largest metropolis in the country-‘Hyderabad’.

According to officials, the entire network of signages will be supplemented with 56 specially erect signage of specific interest to tourists as it will exclusively display directions and distances to tourist attractions in Hyderabad. Besides, they will facilitate navigation by all road users by indicating the directions and precise distances to various landmarks and locations on the one side and also feature a monument or other attraction on the other side. Measuring three and half feet in length and two feet in width, the signs are made of weather resistant material and can be read easily even in the dark from a distance.
