Resume tips and tricks
1.Take
clear A4 size (or at the most, quarter - size,
but never foolscap or any other size) paper.
2. Start with
Personal Section in which the following
information should be given in the order
indicated below Full Name, Date of Birth, Marital
Status and No. of Children, Languages known, Full
Address and Telephone number. Many an opportunity
has been lost because the candidate could not be
contacted in time.
3. Next, take up
the EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION Section. Here,
start with the school from where you passed your
school - leaving examination, mentioning the
following Name of School, City/town, Examination
Passed, Year of Passing, Division / class / Rank
/ Marks Obtained. If you secured any academic
distinction / scholarship at school/mention it
here. Give similar information for college also
mentioning main subjects or branch of study, and
University to which affiliated. Finally, if you
have done any post-graduate or professional
courses mention them here, including those that
you may still be undergoing.
4. In case of
WORK EXPERIENCE, start with the latest or current
employment first, and then work backwards to the
very first employment. The information to be
given in each case is Name of the company, its
annual turnover, brief details fo its activities
i.e., Products, Manufactured/sold, service
offered etc., your position/designation, the
persons (by designation) to whom you reported,
the nature of your duties and responsibilities ,
date of your joining & leaving. In case there
are any significant achievements in any of the
jobs, mention it at the appropriate places.
Candidates should not be afraid to name the
Companies they have worked in. No one is going to
violate their confidentiality. On the other hand,
not giving the names of their earlier employers
renders their application totally inadequate from
the point of assessing their suitability from the
point of assessing. As a consequence, there is a
natural tendency to disregard such applications
at the very first stage of scrutiny. At the most,
the name of your current employer may not be
revealed.
5. The last
section should be EXTRA ACADEMIC ATTAINMENTS.
This should list things like hobbies, proficiency
in sports, membership of professional
bodies/associations, any significant role played
in social/cultural activities, any publications
etc.
6.Finally,
mention atleast two, non-relative references of
whom at least one should have known you at work.
Give their full names, address and telephone
number so that they can easily be contacted.
