HCU among the top five universities of India
|
Hyderabad: University Grants Commission has selected the University of Hyderabad as one among the five institutions in the country that has the 'potential for excellence'.
Under the scheme the University Grants Commission has sanctioned Rs.5 crore to the University , which is one among the seven Central universities in the country, as 'seed money' with the remaining unidentified amount coming in during in during the next three years.
The other universities selected under this scheme are Jawaharlal Nehru University, Pune University, Madras University and Jadhavpur
University. While the University of Hyderabad and the Jawaharlal Nehru University are Central institutes the other three are State
institutes.
The panel took into consideration mode of selection of students; examination systems; the achievements of the students; the research output of the teaching staff; their standing among academic fraternity; the publication of works etc before granting the prestigious status.
Earlier , the Department of Science and Technology, government of India, has sanctioned Rs.4 crore under its funds for
Improvement of Science and Technology program to the five school of the University of Hyderabad to augment research facilities. The school that have been chosen for funding are Biochemistry and Plant science under level one and Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics and Statistics for level two.
Sometime back the University was declared by the government of India's Department of Scientific and Industrial Research as the 'only' University under 'high output' high impact category among the top 50
institutions in the country.
