| Hyderabad: A Stock Market surveillance
system made by Hyderabad firm is being lapped up by foreign bourses AWACS
or Advanced warning and Control System, a software product designed to
keep track of unfair trading practices, is probably the best thing to
have happened to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Developed by Suheim Sheikh and his team
at the Hyderabad-based SDG Software Technologies of which he is the
Managing director, it allows for real-time risk management of multiple
transactions taking place in different Exchanges.
Besides calculating Stock market
parameters like gross exposure, net exposure, concentration, and
volatility in Real time, AWACS also has a host of built-in visualization
tools that enable surveillance officers to follow market trends and
understand the dynamics of the bourses.
AWACS can transact around 1000
operations a second and detect any circular trading and price
manipulation. "It can even be modified to detect early symptoms of
insider-trading", says Suheim. The software has several on-line and
off-line 'alerts' to assist exchanges to monitor the market effectively.
SDG Software Technologies specializes
in stock market-related software products. Suheim's first
product,Workhorse, which helps stockbrokers in their back-end
operations, was a runaway hit.
AWACS is becoming popular at the
overseas exchanges too. The American exchange, NASDAQ, and several
European bourses have picked it up.
With a small staff of 30, Suheim, a
sailing enthusiast and an aeronautical engineer from IIT Madras, is busy
thinking of updating AWACS as bourses throw up new ideas.
