The population of Hyderabad district has gone up from 31,45,939 in 1991 to
38,29,753 in 2001.
While the proportion of Hindus to the total population has come down from 57.68 to 55.40, in respect of Muslims it has increased from 39.35 to 41.17 during this period.
According to the religion data of Andhra Pradesh pertaining to the census 2001 released by the Census Commissioner, India, the total population of Hindus in the city is 21,21,963 (18,14,204 in 1991), and Muslims 15,76,583 (12,38,074).
